Renaissance Ruminations

A smorgasbord of erratic thoughts on parenting, politics, grilling, marriage, public speaking-all the things that make life interesting.

Tag, I’m It

Posted by bwana on July 25, 2007

I got tagged by the folks at Virginia Virtucon to participate in Blogger 8-ball, where a blogger needs to list eight habits or facts about yourself, then tag eight more people.

OK…

1. My supply of hats is rapidly dwindling due to the rapacious chewing of Nick Nolte’s Mugshot
2. I believe Goo-goo clusters are the finest candy ever created.
3. I have an evolving theology. For instance, my ongoing weight issues have convinced me that the professor in Pat Conroy’s Lords of Discipline was right…if the Lord our God was just, celery sticks would be 4000 calories and a pork barbeque sandwich would be about 5.
4. I have a masters degree…which I got in order to get a law degree..which I never got.
5. The Power Broker by Robert Caro and Huey Long by T. Harry Williams are the finest single volume bios I have ever encountered.
6. El Taco in Yorkshire, VA is my favorite fast food Mexican restaurant; Chevy’s in Falls Church my favorite for full sit-down and enjoy meal. I try to avoid La Tolteca, which is unfortunate as it is the closest to me.
7. I think anyone with an interest in Virginia politics should read The Shad Treatment at least twice.
8. I once shook hands with Robert Duval outside the Manaport Subway restaurant in Manassas.

And as for the next eight, I will ping bloggers whose blogs I like but that I never really hear from…and even a couple who claim to have gone dark!

I think you’d enjoy “All the King’s Men” (by Robert Penn Warren) if you have read it recently. I read it in college (long time ago), vaguely remembered it as a good book, read it again in 2005 during our last statewide election. I was bowled over.

Try the lunch buffet at Haandi in Falls Church.

I have read All the Kings Men several times, and have noted that The Shad Treatment adopts a similar structure in its present tense, then going way back in time, then back to the presence structure.
