Partisan Music?

As the GOP heads home from the Twin Cities, the ugly chords of Rock-n-Roll partisanship has raised its head.

I first became aware of this in 1984, when Bruce Springsteen got annoyed that President Reagan was using “Born in the USA” as a campaign song.  The Boss complained.  The President acceded, and that was the end of that.

Bill Clinton regularly warned us “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow”…here at the 1992 inaugural

And, of course, even though Senator Obama has strangely tried to roll it out, the GOP used Brooks and Dunn’s “Only in America” in both the 2000 and 2004 campaigns. I can only assume it is some type of gamesmanship…

Well, it continues. Last night at the GOP convention they rolled Heart’s “Barracuda”, presumably at tribute to Governor Palin’s HS hoops nickname:

I heard this, and was surprised that Heart (a group I have loved for years) approved the use of the song.

Well, it seems they have not.

Fair enough…besides, if they were going to go with Heart they should have grabbed “Magic Man” and used it for Senator McCain!

So, for my dozens of readers…if permissions were not a problem, what song should McCain-Palin be using for the 2008 election?
